Glance on Amazon Cloud Storage Services

There are 8 different type of AWS cloud storage services available so far.

Following is short crash course refresher:

Simple Storage Service (S3)

·       Object based & key value storage.

o   Allow read, write, and delete object containing from 0 to 5TB of data.

·       Horizontal Scalable.

o   VERSIONING

§  It enables to recover easily from both unintended user action and system failure.

Glacier

·       Extremely low-cost storage for data archival and online backups.

·       Can move data from S3 to Glacier via lifecycle management rules/policies.

·       With management console, you can create and delete vaults. All other interaction requires you to use AWS CLI or write code.

·       Single archive limit is 40 TB in size.

Amazon Elastic File System (EFS)

·       Simple, scalable, elastic, highly available, and highly durable network file system(NFS)

·       Simply pay for what you use

·       EFS allow massive parallels accessed by multiple EC2 within region.

Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS)

·       Block-level storage.

·       Amazon EBS volumes are network-attached storage that persists independently from the running life of a single EC2 instance.

Amazon EC2 instance storage

·       Ephemeral drives– temporary block-level storage.

·       This storage consists of a preconfigured and pre-attached block of disk storage on the same Amazon Web Services – AWS Storage Services Overview Page 25 physical server that hosts the EC2 instance

Amazon storage Gateway

·       connects an on-premises software appliance with cloud based storage

·       It offers file-based, volume-based, and tape-based storage solutions

Amazon Snowball

·       Accelerates moving large amounts of data into and out of AWS using secure Snowball appliances.

·       Size of 80TB.

Amazon CloudFront

·    content-delivery web service that speeds up the distribution of your website’s dynamic, static, and streaming content by making it available from a global network of edge locations.

·       Low-latency and higher bandwidth delivery.
